Tirumanancheri Udhgavanathar Temple - A Nithya Kalyana Kshethram!

Previously, we read about a Paadal Petra Sthalam of Lord Shiva, named Edirkolpadi, where the grand wedding reception of Lord Shiva and Devi Parvathy took place. In continuation to the same, we will be reading about a temple in this blog, a temple which is referred to as Nithya Kalyaana Kshethram.  It is said that every day marriages happen at this place. The name of the temple is Udhvaganathar temple and it is situated at Thirumanancheri in Mayiladuthrai district of Tamil Nadu. Lord Shiva presides as Udhvaganathar and His consort is Devi Kokila. The temple is also called as Kalyanasundareswarar Swami temple.

Legend says that Devi Parvathy wished to have a grand wedding with Lord Shiva one more time and enjoy the festivities. Lord Shiva agreed but did not take any immediate action. Hurt by this, Devi Parvathy left His abode and wandered over the earth in the form of a cow. Lord Shiva, in the form of a lingam, was worshipped by the cow and also bore on His body, the scar of the cow's feet. A yajna was held by Sage Bharata and Devi Parvathy regained Her original form. The Lord and Devi got married again as per Her wishes at the place where the temple is currently located.

In this temple, the Navagraha Rahu is in physical form, decked with ornaments and in human physique. Devotees pray to him for removal of Dosha. The holy pond of this temple is called Saptha Sagara and is believed to have been the garland of the divine couple during their wedding.

Manmatha, the god of love, was burnt by Lord Shiva and was restored to life in the place where the temple is situated.

The temple is specially famous for its Kalyana Archana. People facing delay in marriage pray here for removal of obstacles. Many rituals are followed before and after the marriage is conducted. People also pray here for issues related to parenthood.

Om Namaha Shivaya! Om Devyai Namaha!
