Stories From The Bhagavatham - Krishna Avatar - Brahma's Brahm - Part 1
In the previous episode, we read about how Krishna killed
Aghasura and saved his friends from death. The Bhagavatham mentions that these
children went to their home and told their parents about Aghasura after a year.
Why did it take a whole year for the children to tell their
parents about Aghasura? Usually when something significant happens, children
are most excited to inform their parents about the same. Then why did these
children, the friends of Krishna, wait for a whole year to tell their parents about
their dreadful tryst with Aghasura?
The Bhagavatham mentions that a lot happened in a year, in the
time gap between Aghasura’s killing and the children returning to their homes.
After Aghasura was killed and all the children had been revived
by Krishna, he took them to the banks of the river to divert their attention.
He had performed many miracles in front of his friends and because of his maya,
these events didn’t stay long in the human minds. Aghasura had been indeed
terrifying and he wanted his friends to forget the entire episode with the
Asura.
“I am hungry.” Krishna told his friends. Gesturing to the banks
of the river, he said, “This seems to be a nice place to sit down and have our
food. Come, let’s eat.” The children readily agreed. All of them sat in a
circle, Krishna in their midst. Every child had bought some snack and before
long, they all were eating, teasing each other and having fun.
Let’s take a minute and visualize this scene – Krishna, the
supreme Lord of the Universe, in a beautiful human form, sitting with his
blessed friends, eating with them, teasing them and spreading happiness around
him. How blessed were these children to whom the Lord came as a friend!
The children were engrossed in eating. In the meanwhile, the
calves that they had brought with them, ventured off into the jungle. After a
long time, the children realized that they had lost their calves.
“Krishna, we have lost the calves!” The kids said in despair. “They
seem to have ventured into the jungle where it is not safe. What should we tell
the elders?”
“Don’t worry,” Krishna said calmly. “You all continue eating. I
will go and bring back the calves.” His assurance calmed the children, and they
went back to eating while Krishna set off into the jungle in search of the
calves.
He looked for them for a long time but could not find them. He
returned to the banks of the river to inform his friends, but they had
disappeared too. The entire place was empty!
